Hey Austinites! Here’s 4 Romantic Getaways for Valentine’s Weekend

g3
Sometimes the best medicine to renew kindred spirits is taking your sweetheart on a romantic weekend getaway. Austin is known as the heart of Texas, and being centrally located offers plenty of options for a quick trip with the one you love.  We’ve found four great escapes to get away to this Valentine’s Weekend.

Romantic San Antonio Getaway

g5

According to Time Magazine, San Antonio ranks #1 for the most romantic city in the United States. San Antonio offers a unique mix of old and new by offering visitors dining and people-watching on the infamous Riverwalk, or having a lazy picnic lunch under the shade of ancient Live Oak trees in Brackenridge Park.

Walking hand-in-hand through the lush gardens of San Antonio’s Botanical Gardens is sure to inspire romance. This is a city rich in history, and lovers may enjoy visiting The Alamo or the San Antonio Museum of Art.  For the adventurous couple, spend the day soaring to new heights at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

g6

How about a helicopter tour over the city during your stay?  Alamo Helicopter Tours is offering the experience of a lifetime on Valentine’s Weekend.  From February 12th-February 14h, Alamo Helicopter Tours will be offering Romantic Valentine’s City Light Tours at sunset.  To make a reservation, call 210-921-2359.

Romantic Waco Getaway

g7

At little more than a one hour drive from Austin, Waco makes for a nice weekend getaway.  Sign up for a cooking class together at Gourmet Gallery, and ignite the flame while learning to make crepes during the Simply Elegant Brunch cooking class.  Take a leisurely stroll through the Cameron Park Zoo, and then grab a bite to eat at Jake’s Texas Tea House.

For the museum-loving couple, check out the Texas Sports Hall of Fame and the Dr. Pepper Museum.  The Dr. Pepper Museum offers the unique hands-on experience of creating your own soft drink, including labeling and developing a marketing strategy, and then enjoying a yummy Dr. Pepper Float from the soda fountain.

g8

Waco offers several nice dining options.  DiamondBack’s is an elegant, wood-lined eatery serving steaks, seafood and sushi.  One Thirty Five Prime has been voted the best steak in Waco for 7 years in a row.  Cafe Homestead “partners with local and organic sources to provide guests with the highest quality dining experience”, according to The Waco Fork.

Romantic Fredericksburg Getaway

g9

Fredericksburg is well-known to be a top romantic destination in the Hill Country.  From the wine tours and romantic B&B’s, to the hiking for the intrepid set, a couple is sure to find an idyllic retreat when traveling to Fredericksburg.  This picturesque town is rich in German heritage, and here you will find some of the finest German restaurants in Texas.  Some of the don’t-miss German food restaurants in Fredericksburg are Otto’s, Altdorf Biergarten and Der Lindenbaum.

g10

A romantic weekend getaway in Fredericksburg may look like this:  window shopping downtown on Main Street amongst historic buildings, wine tastings at the many local vineyards, dining in authentic German restaurants with old world romance and then staying at a charming Bed & Breakfast.  In order to fully enjoy touring the wineries around Fredericksburg, a couple may consider a wine tasting tour with a company such as Texas Wine Tours.  This option allows you to fully relax and not worry about who will drive, as you are picked up in style from any lodging location within the city limits, taken on a wine tour that includes a picnic lunch, and then dropped back off at your hotel.

g11

Hiking can be a great bonding experience for couples by fostering a sense of closeness and responsibility for each other.  Just 17 miles north of Fredericksburg is Enchanted Rock State Natural Area.  Pack wine and plastic wine glasses in your backpack and experience a romantic sunset from the top of this huge pink granite rock.

Dallas provides a vast array of chances for a couple to get starry eyed in the Lone Star State.  Peruse the Dallas Arts District to bring out your inner-nerd and connect while you view the exhibits at the Dallas Museum of Art or attend an opera at the Winspear Opera House.  After you’ve strolled the Arts District, share a picnic and a bottle of wine at Klyde Warren Park, where you can thumb through shelves of free books in the reading and games room.

g12

Share a gondola ride for two across the serene waters of Lake Carolyn, where the gondolier will serenade you as you enjoy gourmet chocolates and sparkling cider.  Enjoy a fun afternoon at the Dallas World Aquarium where you can gaze at exotic fish and other animals.  Or go back in time at the Galaxy Drive-in Movie Theatre in Ennis, TX.

g13

How about dining 560 feet in the air with 360-degree views of Dallas at Five Sixty by Wolfgang Puck? Or, go on a “Valentine’s on the Town” Winery, Pizza, Chocolate and Jazz Tour.  If you’d prefer an intimate candlelit dinner, try St Martins for French-American cuisine.
